Touch-up pens
Application tips:
Preparation: Before repairing, the damaged area must be cleaned thoroughly. First, carefully remove rust and coarse dirt. Make sure that the surrounding vehicle paint is not damaged. Then remove fine dirt with a cotton swab and silicone remover (if not available, use benzine). For heavily rusted areas, we recommend treating them with a rust converter such as Tannox.
Applying primer (only for white): Shake the touch-up pen vigorously for at least 30 seconds before use to ensure that the paint particles are evenly distributed. After opening, wipe the brush on the touch-up pen bottle or on a piece of plastic or glass, do not brush. This is necessary to remove excess paint from the brush, which would result in a thick, uneven application of paint. Carefully dab the paint onto the area to be repaired (do not brush, otherwise streaks will form). Make sure that the paint is applied very thinly. If the paint is only damaged in a very small area, e.g. from a stone chip, use a special paint swab or a toothpick to apply only small portions of paint. If possible, try to apply very thin layers. If the scratch to be repaired is very deep, the process can be repeated two or three times. Make sure that the underlying paint layer is completely dry each time. Allow 20 to 30 minutes for each coat of paint. The primer needs 12 to 24 hours to dry.
Applying the main coat: Shake the touch-up pen vigorously for at least 30 seconds before use to ensure that the paint particles are evenly distributed. After opening, wipe the brush on the touch-up pen bottle or on a piece of plastic or glass, do not brush. This is necessary to remove excess paint from the brush, which would result in a thick, uneven application of paint. Applying clear coat: The clear coat is thicker than the main coat and must therefore be applied very sparingly. A slight bump after applying the clear coat can be removed by sanding and polishing. After applying the clear coat, you must wait at least 24 hours before you can continue working on the area. However, 72 hours is recommended!
Optional sanding: After the clear coat has hardened, the repair area and the surrounding area can be wet sanded with 2000 or 3000 grit water sandpaper. Then clean the area thoroughly with plenty of water. This step is primarily intended for large-scale damage.
Optional re-polishing: As soon as the surface is sanded smooth, the entire area can be re-polished. Before re-polishing, the treated areas must be thoroughly dry, otherwise the new paint can be damaged during polishing due to the friction of a polishing machine or by hand. If everything has been done correctly, the repair should be practically invisible.
Temperature: The ambient temperature when working should be between 13 and 25 degrees Celsius. Direct sunlight should be avoided. This can cause the car paint to dry out too quickly in some places. If the paint is below 10 degrees Celsius before processing, it can also be carefully warmed up with a hair dryer, otherwise the paint applied with the touch-up pen will not bond properly with the old paint layer. The touch-up pen itself should always have a temperature of around 20 degrees Celsius and should never be exposed to frost.
Warnings: Repairing paint damage yourself with a touch-up pen can be very successful, but it is no substitute for visiting a professional paint shop. The touch-up pen set is always used at your own risk. The user is liable for any damage caused to the vehicle by using the touch-up pen. Car paint should never come into contact with the eyes or mucous membranes. When working with touch-up pens, it is advisable to wear disposable rubber gloves. Do not store car paint near children or animals.
